Hotsculpting by Fotona
We all dream of a silhouette with harmonious contours. Sometimes, despite a healthy lifestyle (which includes physical activity and a balanced diet) some areas of fat deposits prove resistant.
Surgeries such as abdominoplasty or liposculpture may seem invasive and off-putting for many people. However, non-surgical and non-invasive treatment options are also available. Hotsculpting is one of these alternatives that destroys fat cells and firms the skin without surgery.
WHAT IS HOTSCULPTING?
Hotsculpting involves Fotona’s SP Dynamis technology, a combination of two lasers (with different wavelengths) used to treat several medical and aesthetic skin problems.
To achieve results similar to those obtained by Hotsculpting, other non-invasive treatments available on the market require two distinct procedures: one for fat reduction and the other one for tightening the skin subsequently.
Hotsculpting is, therefore, the only non-invasive treatment that combines two procedures in one!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Laser energy targets subcutaneous fat cells by gently heating them in a safe manner. This destroys these cells which will then be permanently eliminated by the body while preserving the epidermis and surrounding tissues. This step also stimulates the production of new collagen.
Simultaneously, the laser heat contracts the existing collagen fibres and tightens the skin by stimulating the repair process. This process helps with toning the skin.
WHAT ARE THE TREATED AREAS?
The areas that can be treated by Hotsculpting are the abdomen, sides, waist, arms and the inner and outer thighs.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING A HOTSCHULPTING TREATMENT?
Every person is different. However, the treatment is practically painless, sometimes causing very slight discomfort. Immediately after the procedure, redness or slight swelling may appear. These will fade after a few hours.
As the treatment does not require convalescence, you can resume your daily activities immediately after the treatment.
WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS?
The Fotona laser produces intense heat over the treated area. At first, a progressive heat will be felt, and then replaced by short sensations of heat in the treated area. The feeling is bearable and is comparable to a hot stone massage or a sauna.
The second part of the treatment, the firming part, involves more superficial heat. Depending on the treated areas, the heat felt may be more intense, while remaining very tolerable.
After the treatment, the skin surface remains warm to the touch and pink or even red traces can be observed during the first few days. A slight desquamation of the superficial layers of the skin may occur in the first few weeks after the treatment. It is recommended to moisturize your skin well after the treatment and drink generous amounts of water.
HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE REQUIRED?
To achieve optimal results and significant aesthetic improvement, an average of 3 sessions is required. Several factors can influence the number of sessions, such as the amount of fat to be eliminated. The sessions will be spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.
Moreover, over time, the sagging of skin tissue can occur which is also affected by weight variations that may require ongoing maintenance treatments. During the consultation, Dr. Bernier will be able to discuss your expectations and how to realistically achieve them.
HOW LONG BEFORE YOU SEE THE RESULTS?
Results vary from one individual to another. Most patients can immediately perceive the tightening of the skin. This is followed by a progressive change in the silhouette during the fat cell elimination process. Compared to other treatments, such as Coolsculpting or liposuction, the results of Hotsculpting happen faster. Moreover, Hotsculpting does not require any convalescence or post-treatment care other than that of hydrating the skin well!
The result: a more defined silhouette and an improvement in the skin’s elasticity in the treated areas.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HOTSCULPTING AND COOLSCULPTING?
Unlike Coolsculpting, which uses cold to freeze and destroy fat cells, Hotsculpting uses the heat-induced by the laser to destroy these cells and tighten the skin surface simultaneously. The dual process of Hotsculpting is unique because, not only does it target fat cells, but it also firms the skin to prevent sagging after the procedure. Unlike Coolsculpting, it does not require pulling or stretching the skin during treatment.
On the other hand, Hotsculpting can be used to treat larger areas, such as arms, which are difficult to treat with other techniques.
