Dr. Elise Bernier: Her Practice in Phlebology

Dr. Bernier has been practicing phlebology since 1980.

Trained by famous Quebecers of this period: Dr. Hélène Sans-souci, Dr. Jocelyne Trempe, Dr. Louis Grondin, Dr. Robert Prescott. She also completed internships with French figures (Dr. Wallois, Dr. Gritton, Dr. Marzin, Dr. Sapin), authors of several books in this decade.

The 90s were marked by the appearance of echodopplers ( her first courses in Detroit by Biosound in 1988) and the practice of phlebectomy as much on the French side (with Dr. J-F Van Cleef, Dr. Alain Cuffit, and Dr. Dortu) as on the American side with Dr. Pauline Raymond.

The 2000s were marked by foam sclerotherapy and the beginning of endovenous laser treatments.

Another major step was taken in 2010 when the U.S. Venous and Lymphatic Disease Boards became available to experienced Canadian physicians. It is important to understand that in Canada, unlike many other countries in the world, phlebology is not recognized as a specialty. In France, as in the United States, at least 2 years of specialized vascular training are required to obtain these specialty diplomas (boards). Dr. Bernier qualified, passed her exams and is proud to have maintained her status as a member of the AMERICAN BOARD OF VENOUS AND LYMPHATIC MEDICINE.

You will be well taken care of before, during, and after the treatment

Regardless of the treatment, Dr. Bernier always takes the time to assess your needs properly. Once the treatment has been determined, the patient is assured of the necessary follow-up and explanations during the whole process. The centre’s staff regularly contact the patient throughout the process.

Dr. Elise Bernier: A career built on continuous training

In 2001, to pursue her quest for excellence and meet the needs of her patients, Dr. Bernier began her training in breast and abdomen surgery under the supervision of a well-known plastic surgeon at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke.

The Collège des médecins du Québec supports and supervises general practitioners during their training for specialized treatments. A panel of physicians is then in charge of verifying and confirming Dr. Bernier’s skills to ensure that her patients receive safe and medically optimal procedures.

For more than two years, from September 2001 to December 2003, she received plastic and cosmetic surgery training. She has assisted and performed various breast and abdominal surgeries under the supervision of a plastic surgeon.

Then, to complete her training to deal with the potential complications of these procedures, Dr. Bernier completed an internship in general surgery at Maisonneuve-Rosemont University Hospital.

She has obtained the surgeon trainers’ approval and the attestation of her skills from the Collège des médecins du Québec.

For the past 20 years, Dr. Bernier has completed and updated her knowledge through lectures and training seminars, particularly in the United States and Europe.
